The National Youth Institute (INJU) is coordinating all aspects of its next big event, the 5K Run under the motto ‘Neither Silence nor Taboo’.
Registration is open for various competitions in 12 departments of the country.
INJU5K is the final event of ‘Neither Silence nor Taboo’, a national campaign to raise awareness of mental health and psychosocial wellbeing targeting adolescents and young people, which launched across the country from July 2022, achieving the participation of more than 10,000 adolescents and young adults in various activities.
INJU5K will be held in the month of November in 12 departments of the country, which are San Jose, Flores, Trenta and Tres, Artigas, Cerro Largo, Durazno, Maldonado, Paysandu, Rio Negro, Florida, Lavalleja and Rocha.
Persons over 13 years of age from all over the country can participate. Registration is online through inju.gub.uy, and the registration period for runners is from October 12 to November 4.

This event is organized by INJU and has the support of the National Sports Secretary, ASSE and departmental administrations. The activity is completely free and all information about requirements, dates and locations can be found at inju.gub.uy.
Who can participate?
All persons over 13 years of age from all over the country can participate.
Those under the age of 18 will need to attach to the registration form a waiver of liability signed by an adult, as well as a photocopy of that adult’s ID. Demarcation is available on the same form.
If these documents are not attached to the form, their presentation is mandatory on the day of the competition, at the time of picking up the shirt.
It is also mandatory for all people (regardless of age) to attach to the registration form or bring the image of the medical record of physical fitness issued by the National Sports Secretariat or the basic health card or certificate closer to the day of the competition. , a doctor checking for contraindications for a 5-kilometer athletic race.
If these documents are not attached to the form or presented on the day of the competition, the person will not be able to participate, as explained by INJU.
Appropriate campaign
Neither silence nor taboo. The hashtag is valued on social media and relates to an issue addressed in this July 2022 campaign by INJU.
NiSilencioNiTabú is a national campaign to raise awareness about mental health and psychosocial well-being, aimed at adolescents and young people, which seeks to encourage their involvement and participation in the problem by making visible what they think, what they feel and what they offer. Its aim is to break the silence that exists on the subject and destroy the perception that mental health is a taboo subject.
The main audience of the campaign is teenagers between the ages of 14 and 19; and the secondary audience: young people, educators, teachers, adult role models, families.
Some components of this campaign are its actions on the territory, which implies the deployment of activities aimed at adolescents and young people, the identification of adolescents and young speakers, inter-institutional articulation at the local level.
Since then, it has been sought to place the issue on the public agenda, conduct an audiovisual campaign for digital platforms (social networks, web pages) in addition to promoting a web portal as a content support site for adolescents and young people, teachers and adult referents, as well and family members.
The overall framework consists of the National Suicide Prevention Strategy 2021-2025, the Intersectoral Plan for Adolescent and Youth Suicide Prevention (2021-2022) and the National Adolescent Suicide Act 2021 Awareness and Prevention Campaign. .
Several institutions were designated to participate in this promotion, for example INJU with the support of UNICEF and the Ministry of Public Health. It involves key institutions to achieve the goals that adhere to and cooperate with the campaign: Administration of State Health Services (ASSE), National Administration of Public Education (ANEP), Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC), Institute for Children and adolescents of Uruguay (INAU), National Institute for the Inclusion of Adolescents (INISA), Ministry of Social Development (MIDES) through the participation of Enlace Educativo, INMUJERES and the Ministry of Mental Health, the National Sports Secretariat (SND), the Agency for Electronic Government and Society of Information and Knowledge (AGESIC), public media and youth secretariats and directorates of departmental governments across the country.
