“Walk for Life” is a solidarity campaign involving individuals, companies and organizations, young volunteers and volunteers, which brings hope to children with cancer across the country, in addition to raising public awareness of this disease.
In this framework, Banco FIE and the NGO FIE carried out the walk corresponding to the second version of the campaign in the city of Cochabamba through a route that covered 4 kilometers from the Japanese Park to the Outdoor Theater of the bicycle path, bringing together more than 1,500 pedestrians and 180 volunteers dedicated of this cause.
This activity aimed to promote the collection of funds for the treatment of cancer for girls and boys at the Children’s Hospital in La Paz, the Eastern Bolivian Oncology Institute in Santa Cruz and the installation of a histopathology laboratory at the Hospital Manuel Asensio Villaroel in Cochabamba.
During the opening ceremony of this activity, the drive and commitment of hundreds of people who every year make it possible for girls and boys to have access to treatment on time and to have an expected life expectancy were highlighted.
In her speech, the Director of the Department of Sports of the Autonomous Municipal Government of Cochabamba, Carola Loma highlighted these actions aimed at supporting families and children who suffer from this disease and ratified the commitment of the Municipality of Cochabamba to health. “We thank you that there are people like you who care about the children in the country who suffer from this serious disease, count on us, we are committed to this cause,” emphasized the municipal administration.
On behalf of Vice Mayor Adela Zamudio, Vice Mayor Bianca Molina considered the scope of the “Walking for Life” campaign, which in this administration was developed for the first time in a face-to-face mode in the city of Cochabamba.
Finally, the general manager of Banco FIE, Fernando López Arana, emphasized that Walking for Life has become a real chain of solidarity that has managed to reach the national level, supporting the main cancer care centers for girls and children in the cities of La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz.
“Thank you to all the people who attended this appeal today, we are sure that this initiative, with its vision, strength and integrity, allows us to remain committed to supporting so many boys and girls: an average of 276 children can receive medical treatment annually. in the three centers for hospital care for oncological children in the country. I express our gratitude to all the allied companies and institutions that allow this campaign to grow each year, as well as to the volunteers, without whose efforts we could not continue,” said Lopez.
In the administration of 2021, a collection of more than one million two hundred thousand Bolivians was achieved, a very important figure when it is known that each treatment lasts approximately three years and the total cost can even reach 20 thousand dollars. The amount collected and Banco FIE’s direct contribution to the campaign made it possible to expand the scope of support provided to low-income girls and boys who suffer from this disease in the country.
And the fathers and mothers of the children with cancer were the stars of the most emotional moment at the end of the walk, expressing their gratitude to the organizers of this campaign “I want to thank everyone who was part of this emotional morning of this great walk, today I represent those who are struggling today, these little ones who due to life circumstances are going through this difficult situation, we are fighting for those who are present today, for those who have already gone and for those who will come, every step of the way of this disease is very sad, we want to thank the friendly companies, organizations and volunteers and of course each of the walkers on behalf of ASPNICC Cochabamba, said Cynthia Chock.
The collection of donations for the benefit of children with cancer will continue until October 31 through the various modalities through the use of digital channels or in Banco FIE agencies throughout the country.
