The Attorney General’s Office is investigating the supply of horsemeat in PAE rations in La Ceja, Antioquia

The control entity is verifying whether the official failed to fulfill his supervisory duties, considering that the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Interpol (DIJIN) reported that the food rations distributed by the contractor contained female domestic horse meat.

In the afternoon hours of September 27, Tuesday, m General Prosecutor’s Office announced that an investigation had been launched against Diana Columbia Castro Londono, a university professional from the City Hall of La Ceja, as head of the contract signed with the Fundación Colombia un País para el Presente (FUNDACOPPP), for alleged irregularities in the operating contract of the School Meal Program (PAE) for children and adolescents of the municipality worth 2,277,528,093 pesos.

The control entity is verifying whether the official failed to fulfill his supervisory duties, considering that the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Interpol (DIJIN) reported that the food rations distributed by the contractor contained female domestic horse meat.

Through a statement, the public ministry said this seeks to detect the occurrence of possible misconduct and the circumstances of time, manner and place in which they were committed, determines whether they constitute disciplinary violations and the possible damages caused. Likewise, the Attorney General expanded investigations to 23 other municipalities in eastern Antioquiawhere the same supplier also distributed horsemeat.

These investigations reinforce the discouraging results obtained from the report of “Medellin how are we doing” where it was concluded that the quality of life of children aged 0 to 5 years in the city has declined in almost all aspects related to health, nutrition, education and protective environment.

The complaint process began on August 6, when the prosecutor’s office of the province of Rionegro indicated that in the schools of the municipality located in the eastern part of Antiochthe requirements established for the School Meals Program will not be met.

“The conclusion is that from some samples taken from the food that is delivered to the student beneficiaries of the PAE in the municipality of La Ceja, the report of the researcher from the laboratory FPJ-132 determines the presence of horse meat in them,” he informed the Attorney General at the time .

The Attorney General’s Office will now send copies to the Office of the Comptroller General of Antioquia and to the State Attorney General’s Office – Antioquia Section so that they can conduct any investigations that may arise.

In the same vein, on September 20, the Metropolitan Police of Valle de Aburrá announced that it had been dismantled a secret slaughterhouse located in Copacabana. Horses were apparently slaughtered at this location to later sell their meat.

According to what was reported by the institution, in the illegal slaughterhouse there were more than three dead horses and eleven more alive, but in healthy conditions.

“We found illegal undercover use of meat products in this case on equine livestock. In this place, unfortunately, the use of five or four species was carried out, which were slaughtered for their meat, “said Major Jair Yasno, commander of the carabinieri and canine guide group of the Metropolitan Police.

It should be recalled that a little over a month ago on General Prosecutor’s Office announced that it will launch an investigation to determine if there were irregularities in the awarding of the contract for the supply of meat products to boys and girls who benefit from the School Feeding Program (PAE) in the municipality of La Seja, Antioquia.
