The speaker pointed out that sport is a powerful tool whose role is really important in all societies because it contributes to the development of children and adolescents. “It teaches values, respect, improves health, reduces diseases, eliminates cultural and ethnic barriers, promotes peace, development and is without doubt a tool to prevent social conflicts in a society,” he said.

During his speech, Baena expressed the importance of sports when it comes to teamwork. “Its values ​​such as teamwork, justice, discipline, respect for the opponent, the rules of the game are understood by all and can be used for the progress of society, for social cohesion and protection of rights and peaceful coexistence,” he said.

In this sense, he emphasized that: “in our country, we have been immersed in countless social conflicts over the years. I feel that it is necessary to implement and consolidate a public policy through sport that allows it to be perceived as an element of social transformation, of personal satisfaction of individuals and essentially in relation to the general well-being and overall development of boys, girls and adolescents and the population as a whole.

He emphasized the establishment of the Ministry of Sports. “It was one of the most important achievements that the country has achieved and it is fundamental in the social approach of the country because education is also done with sports” and added “sports and education are the perfect combination that we must recognize and must not we forget it as an essential tool for education and establishing values ​​in our society, and also for protecting the rights of the population”.

He mentioned that he is beginning to understand sports as a holistic opportunity to reach different regions. “It is a mistake that these children and adolescents do not have the opportunity to have education and sports as a basic and priority need. That they have to choose between studies and sports and excellence, because there are no guarantees, because there is no education system that allows them to achieve success through sports, because without a doubt, education must be the first element for them to be successful in sports and that will help them to have many more opportunities after their sports career. They will make them an asset in the labor and professional sphere and therefore become role models of our society,” he said.

He also said that sport transforms society in many aspects and that sports infrastructure has become spaces for civic participation, dialogue and consensus, where children and adolescents from vulnerable groups can use these spaces to guarantee their rights and project your life through sports and education.

“Another clear example of social transformation through sport is the 2019 National and Para-National Sports Games initiative, which I had the opportunity to be the director of.
