Animal Welfare Seminar for Maritime Cattle Transport

The Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) will hold a virtual course on animal welfare for the maritime transport of cattle from September 28 to 30. The meeting will be held from 8am to 12pm and is aimed at staff involved in the live animal export process.

This workshop aims to guide adequate compliance with national and international regulationsthus contributing to the implementation of the measures aimed at meet the basic needs of the animals during the transport process.

The following topics will be discussed during the seminar, among others:: introduction to animal welfare, spaces and comfort in cattle transport, veterinary profession in sea transport of cattle, nutrition and animal welfare.

It is aimed at traders, exporters, veterinarians, zootechnicians, MVZs, helpers, consignment supervisors, ICA authorities and officials and other interested parties. (Read: Ban on export of live animals with seawater)

At ICA we work to comply with national animal welfare regulations in transport and what is provided in chapter 7.2 of the Terrestrial Animal Health Code of the World Organization for Animal Health (WHO).

The training will be conducted virtually through the Microsoft Teams platform and will have a lasting 3 days between 28 to 30 September 2022 and will be led by experts, consultants and ICA specialists from Agrosavia, Uniagraria, among other entities.

In this way, ICA works with the various actors that are part of the livestock nexus, minimizing the risks that could jeopardize animal welfare. (Read: Livestock exports boost the local livestock economy)
