The joy of His Heart. Commentary on marriages: Luke 15, 1-32

There will be joy in the cycle for a converted sinner.
Reading of the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke 15, 1-32

At that time all the tax collectors and sinners came to Jesus to listen to him. And the Pharisees and scribes grumbled, saying:
“He welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
Jesus told them this parable:
“Which of you, having a hundred sheep, and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the lost one until he finds it?” And when he found it, he carried it on his shoulders, very happy; and when he comes home, he gathers his friends and neighbors together and says to them:
“Rejoice with me! I have found my lost sheep.”
I tell you that in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who need not repent.
Or what woman has ten gold coins, if she loses one, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when he finds it, he gathers his friends and neighbors and says to them:
“Rejoice with me! I have found the coin I had lost.”
I tell you that the angels of God will have the same joy for a sinner who has converted».
He also said to them:
“A man had two children; the youngest of them said to his father:
“Father, give me the share of wealth that falls to me.”
The father distributed the goods to them.
Not many days later the youngest son, having collected all his belongings, emigrated to a distant country, and there squandered his wealth, living wildly.
When he had spent all, a terrible famine came upon that land, and he began to suffer want.
Then he made a contract with one of the citizens of that country, who sent him to his fields to graze pigs. He wanted to fill himself with the carob grains that the pigs ate, but no one gave him anything.
Thinking then, he said to himself:
“How many of my father’s workers have plenty of bread while I here starve. I will get up, go to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I no longer deserve to be your son: treat me as one of your mercenaries.
He arose and came to where his father was; when he was still a long way off, his father saw him, and his bowels were stirred; and running away, she threw her arms around him and showered him with kisses.
His son said:
“Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I don’t deserve to be your son anymore.
But the father said to his servants:
“At once take out the best tunic and clothe him with it; put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet; bring the fatted calf and slaughter it; let us eat and make a feast, for this son of mine was dead and is alive; he was lost and we found him.
And the banquet began.
His eldest son was in the field. As he approached the house on his way back, he heard the music and dancing, and calling one of the servants, asked him what it was.
He answered:
“Your brother has returned; and your father slaughtered the fatted calf, because he brought it back safely.
He got angry and didn’t want to go in, but his father came out and tried to convince him.
Then he answered his father:
“Look: in so many years since I have served you, without once disobeying your command, you have never given me a child to make a banquet with my friends; On the other hand, when that son of yours came who ate your stock with bad women, you slaughtered his fatted calf.
His father said:
“Son, thou art always with me, and all that is mine is thine: but we should have feasted and rejoiced, because this thy brother was dead, and is alive; it was lost and we found it.”

God’s word.

The joy of His Heart.

Jesus comes into the world to show us the Heart of the Father and he does it in a beautiful way with parables like these. Then we know them as the lost sheep or the prodigal son. But the center of the parable is the Father. How this father loves his children! This is what should direct our attention. It is a love so overflowing that it covers and makes every sin disappear. The joy of the heart rises when his son returns, a joy so great that he forgets the pain he caused him by his departure. A joy so great that he goes out to look for the other son and, after his limits, says to him with all his affection: “My son, all that is mine is yours,” and tries to convey his joy to him. This is how Christ shows us a little of the true Heart of God.

Down to earth for married life:

Louis: Reading a book, I realized how the pride of intelligence creeps in so that by defending what one is sure one understands, it can create discord. If God’s truth was really in me, I would not create discord with that truth. I realized that I had been clinging to God’s truths and abusing them for many years.
Marisa: Thank you so much God, Louis, for this light that He has given you and for realizing what has led you away from God so many times. That makes me very happy, Louis. A lot! And I’m sure there’s a party in heaven today to celebrate that you’ve progressed a little further toward God’s true love in your life.

It is so difficult for us to understand that the Lord rejoices in our falls when we return to Him. There are no reproaches, only a desire to receive us back into His arms. May our hearts become more like His Sacred Heart every day. Glory to the merciful lord of God.
